Monstera Plant Care

Monstera Water Requirements

We recommend watering when the top 2–3 inches of soil are dry. In bright, warm conditions, this might be every 7–10 days; in winter or low light, every 2–3 weeks. Keep an eye on the soil, not the calendar! Use drainage and water thoroughly until excess water runs out.

  • Overwatering signs: Yellowing leaves, limp stems, musty odor, soil staying wet

  • Underwatering signs: Leaves droop that perk up after watering, dry or curling edges, soil pulling from pot sides

If you overdo watering, let your soil dry out, then repot your plant into a chunky, well-draining potting mix to support healthy monstera water needs. Keep humidity moderate to high (40–60%) with a pebble tray, grouping plants, or a humidifier. You can also mist your Monstera for added humidity, but this has short-term benefits. Finish your watering routine with a gentle leaf wipe to boost photosynthesis and elevate your monstera plant care!

Monstera Light Needs

Monstera light needs are all about bright, indirect light. An east or north-facing window is perfect, or set it a few feet back from a sunny south or west window. Soften strong rays with a sheer curtain to prevent leaf scorch. In dim rooms, add a full-spectrum LED for 10–12 hours.

Signs of excessive light include bleached patches and crispy edges. Signs of insufficient light include slow growth, smaller leaves with fewer splits, and stretched stems.  Rotate the pot a quarter turn every couple of weeks for even growth.

Remember to adjust your plant care by season: pull back from harsh summer sun; in winter, move closer to bright windows or supplement with grow lights. Meeting monstera light needs consistently keeps foliage lush.
